We Start With Ourselves: Why Regulation Is the First Act of Justice
What does it mean to respond to a violent and unjust world without becoming hardened or reactive ourselves?
In this essay, I reflect on a conversation that opened a deeper understanding of nervous system regulation as a moral and spiritual practice — not withdrawal, but preparation. Drawing from contemplative traditions, lived experience, and teaching stories (from monks walking for peace to moments of everyday courage), I explore how presence, breath, and self-regulation allow us to meet reality with clarity rather than collapse.
This piece is an invitation to begin where real change always begins: within our own bodies, breath, and awareness.
