I’m so excited to welcome you to the very first Breathe With Keme newsletter! This space is dedicated to sharing insights on breath, movement, mindfulness, and the deep connection between body, mind, and spirit. Whether you are new to this journey or have been exploring for years, I’m honored to have you here.

My Yoga Journey
I took my first yoga class at the age of 28 in a small studio just outside of Saint Paul, MN, where I was living at the time. Throughout the class, I kept wondering why the poses felt so strange: why was I upside down so often, and why was my butt in the air? But something shifted after class. As I walked to my car, the sky seemed grander, the sun shone more brightly, and everything felt clearer. My mind was lighter. That’s when I knew I needed to try yoga again.
I couldn’t afford a monthly yoga studio membership—one of the barriers that keeps yoga from many communities—so I started practicing at home. I read books, studied on my own, and built a practice that centered on my comfort and pace. It was the best gift I had given myself.
While in graduate school in Atlanta, my business partner and I started The Yoga House, where we held classes and workshops. As I pursued my academic studies, my yoga practice evolved alongside them. Later, while conducting research at UC Berkeley for my dissertation, I also explored yoga deeply in Los Angeles. Yoga became part of everything I did. I even incorporated it into my writing classes, helping students connect with their senses and themselves more deeply through movement and breath.
Over the years, I continued learning—studying pranic energy healing, chakra alignment, EFT Tapping, pranayama (conscious breathing), listening circles, trauma-informed yoga, meditation and other restorative skills. Now, 20 years later, all of those gifts have come to fruition. My business partner and I created Paths to Peace, a corporate wellness program based in Chicago, and I’ve opened a healing arts studio here in Oklahoma. My goal is to share wellness practices, build community, and educate people on the importance of restorative modalities like yoga, meditation, and assisted stretching.

The few times that I've tried yoga, I felt better afterwards, but with my busy schedule, I can't seem to stay consistent. Any tips?
